“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.” Psalm 40:3

I sense a season of refreshing.

“Does anyone read blogs anymore?” A question I asked myself as I pondered this beginning. But here you are proving me wrong. Welcome to The Shepherding Co.! A dream that has been brewing in my heart almost as much as coffee has been brewed in my home. Something that seems like a silly stretch but I can’t shake it. Thank you for being here.
I have a desire in my heart to provide my family with meals grown from the land, free of dyes and chemicals. I get so tired reading labels and listening to my children cry when I say “no” to a delicious looking snack on the shelf at the store. It’s frustrating that they should feel as if they’re missing out because I am “that mom”. In reality I’m not. In reality I love a quick drive-thru meal as much as the next overwhelmed mom. I find myself saying “sure whatever” to the heavily dyed cereal to avoid a meltdown. Then I witness something heartbreaking– I witness overstimulated, heavily sugared up kids who can’t seem to focus enough to listen to a single bedtime story. I witness toddlers who are so irritated and emotional as a result of what I have allowed them to eat. This is on repeat and I want it to end. If you’re like me, it is so overwhelming to get into the whole “homesteading” group because it seems so far out of reach. Where do I start?

What can you expect from The Shepherding Co.?

First off, you can expect real. If I have learned anything in my 30 years it’s that putting up a front to impress helps absolutely no one. I am not here to show you my skills, I am not here to brag about anything I can do. Truth is, I need you. We need each other. I am here to create a community– a space for families who believe in God’s beautiful design for not only our food, but our relationships. I am here to grow with you step by step in making healthier decisions for our families. From sharing recipes to praying for each other, I have big plans for this space. I desire to share testimonies and devotionals from myself, my friends and family, and YOU. This is not a space about showcasing my family and our life, this is a step toward forming Biblical community. Will you join me?

I would love to hear from you: theshepherdingco@gmail.com

I’ll be honest, I just started reading blogs, but yes, people do still read them. I love the journey you are on, and the reasons behind it. As a new dad, a nature lover that loves the idea of living off the land, and a new blogger myself, I admire what you for sharing this journey. I look forward to following along!!

I am curious though, what has been the hardest thing you have overcome as you begin this journey, aside from telling you kids no? I imagine that is tough, but easier when you know the harm it can bring.

Also, did you see that the FDA just banned Red Dye… thoughts? Too little too late? Good baby step for our country?

    Thanks for sharing,
    Baer

Thank you so much for the comment! I’m happy to hear people still read blogs. It’s something I’m new to as well but I’m really enjoying it! Very happy this is something you’re excited to follow along with. I’m definitely just getting started and have a lot to learn so I would love any tips or advice when it comes to homesteading type things.

As for what has been the hardest (besides saying no, and like you said the benefits are a no brainer on doing that) I would have to say making the time. It obviously takes time to plan ahead and make items from scratch rather than purchasing them. So that’s something I’m currently struggling with being a mom and having a full time job also.

I did see that about the red dye and I am very happy. Definitely a step in the right direction and I’m praying it’ll continue! It would make our jobs easier as parents if the options we have in the store aren’t harming our kids.

      Have a wonderful Friday!

My sister and her family have been homesteading for about 4 years now in southern Indiana. It’s been fun watching them grow and learn, and see how my nephew(10) and my niece (6) do with it.

I don’t know a ton, but from them and my old school hippy grandparents, a long with a few other random things, I learned a few little tricks and stuff that is neat. If I see anything come up on your blog, I will throw those kind of things in the comments.

Mostly, I hope to learn with you, and see your journey. Looking forward to it!
